Incline Barbell Bench Press
How to do it
- 1
Set the bench to 30–45° and lie back with your eyes under the bar.
- 2
Grip slightly wider than shoulder-width and retract your shoulder blades.
- 3
Lower the bar to your upper chest, just below the collarbones.
- 4
Press up and slightly back so the bar finishes over your shoulders.
Common mistakes
- Setting the bench too steep, turning it into a shoulder press.
- Letting the bar drift toward the stomach on the way down.
Tips
- A lower incline (around 30°) keeps more emphasis on the upper chest.
- Keep your wrists stacked over your elbows at the bottom.
