Close-Grip Bench Press
How to do it
- 1
Lie on a bench and grip the bar about shoulder-width apart.
- 2
Unrack and keep elbows tucked close to your body.
- 3
Lower the bar to your lower chest.
- 4
Press back up, focusing on extending the elbows.
Common mistakes
- Gripping so narrow that the wrists bend.
- Flaring the elbows out.
Tips
- The heaviest triceps exercise you can do — great for strength.
- Shoulder-width grip is enough; hands touching is too close.
