Overhead Press (Barbell)
How to do it
- 1
Hold the bar at your collarbones with a grip just outside shoulder-width.
- 2
Squeeze your glutes and brace your core.
- 3
Press the bar straight up, moving your head back slightly to clear it, then push your head through at the top.
- 4
Lower the bar back to your collarbones with control.
Common mistakes
- Leaning back excessively and turning it into an incline press.
- Pressing the bar forward instead of straight up.
Tips
- Keep forearms vertical at the bottom position.
- Squeezing the glutes protects the lower back.
