What is it?

Training volume — the number of hard sets per muscle per week — is a major driver of muscle growth. Too little limits progress; too much hurts recovery.

How it's calculated

Targets come from our training configuration by level (e.g. ~12 sets/week for chest at an intermediate level) and are adjusted by goal (strength ×0.8, fat loss ×0.85, general fitness ×0.7).

The recommended range is 80–135% of the target.

How to interpret your result

Add sets to muscles below range if they are a priority; reduce if recovery suffers.

Count only sets taken within ~3 reps of failure.

Frequently asked questions

Do warm-up sets count?

No. Only challenging working sets count toward volume.

Do compound lifts count for smaller muscles?

Partially. Many coaches count secondary muscles at half a set; our workout generator does this automatically.
