What is it?

The bench press is one of the most popular measures of upper-body strength. Comparing your 1RM with your body weight gives a fairer picture than absolute numbers.

How it's calculated

1RM is estimated from your set using the average of Epley, Brzycki and Lombardi.

Strength level uses approximate 1RM-to-bodyweight ratios (e.g. men: 0.75× novice, 1.0× intermediate, 1.5× advanced; women: 0.5×, 0.75×, 1.0×).

How to interpret your result

Standards are rough references — technique, arm length and training age all matter.

Use the load table to plan progressive overload.
